A drawing of the city as a collection of architectural eccentricities

I use the technique which is ‘A drawing of the city as a collection of architectural eccentricities’, the designer named Yoshiharu Tsukamoto drew the maps with a novel way, he drew the buildings in three-dimensions onto the two-dimensions’ map, this kind of drawing made by lines, planes. The atelier Bow-Wow also talk about the pet architecture, what is pet architecture? This is the idea of small buildings in the city. It is like a frame of the city, shows people how to practice their own environment by themselves.(see figure 1)

Another way that he like is draw the two-dimensions map first, then draw the three-dimensions’ building on the other paper, mark out this building is which part of the map, this way clearly shows the design of the building. More easy to the idea of these kind buildings, pet architecture.(see figure 2)

I had used the same way to do my own work, but there is one thing different with Yoshiharu Tsukamoto which is I did add a middle point, all the views are around the middle point, which means when the viewer look at the map, from the middle point, viewer can easily define which building is on which part. I did point out two buildings, and drew two figures for them to show the “eccentric”. Both are drawing by the front view.

See this, there are only one place for the house, but people separate it into two little house by a wall, make it more useful and make more people can have places to use. The Hannah’s Pies shop, still using shutter, small window to sell food, easily define that this building is an old building. Form this work, I am understanding when drawing the building, show the difference between those buildings is important, and that’s what ‘eccentric’ means.(see figure 3,4 and figure 5)
