Should deep fakes be made illegal?

As technology continues to evolve new issues are constantly coming up. Deep fakes seem to be ready for prime time in this respect. In the creative realm there is a lot of power to be leveraged by having AI manifest videos for you a la deep fakes. If deep fakes are marked appropriately so people know that the video is synthetic is there any real problem driving this issue.

One question pertains to who is the moderates of truth. In the end you want to know fact from fiction. But the opportunity to create fiction also creates the ability to mislead. How should a system be set up so that people aren’t fooled by others but are incentivized to help others unfold the truth.

Another issue has to do with copyrights. Who owns your face and should have fair use of its dispensation. Your face is your brand, when is this consideration not important.

The most important issue has to do with the ability to do harm. How can the misinformation caused by deep fakes be curtailed so that at the very least proper agents can be put into place to mitigate these risks?
