A Quick Tip on Doing Shout Outs

Making the most of mentioning a fellow writer

When I write an article, most often, I will mention another writer’s (or even a few writers) article. I do my best to find an article that is relatable to the article I am writing. Recently, I figured out a great way to do all this.

First, I go to Medium’s search function and type in what my article is about. For instance, if I’m writing an article about kindness, I will type in “kindness” in the search box.

Then, under results, I click on topics. A list of relatable tags will come up.

I pick the most relevant one that will fit my story. If I’m writing a story about how a stranger surprised me with their kindness, I would click on the “kindness of strangers” tag.

Now, you will find a list of recent articles that have been tagged under “the kindness of strangers” tag.

Make sure you find one (or a few) that resonates the most with your story and is relatable. That way, you can give a sincere and meaningful comment.

And oh yeah! Make sure you tag the writer, so they know.

I’ll follow my example now. Here are some stories I’ve come across in relation to shout outs:

It’s always nice discovering new stories and writers via recommendations.
