A Strong Soul is Better Than Good Luck

Focus on strong character traits and the rest of what you need in life will come easier.

A privileged life can weaken the strength of our soul unless we work at keeping it strong.

We can find hope and happiness in any circumstances if we choose to, but if we adopt the mindset that we can only be hopeful and happy when we have certain foods, wear certain clothing, live at a certain location or a certain size house, then we are cutting ourselves off from many opportunities of hopefulness and happiness.

Child-rearing has become a competition for parents to compete with each other in providing opportunities and privileges to their children. The status of the parents is determined by the activities their children can participate in. And sadly, it is the children who are paying the price.

Our children are experiencing high levels of privilege during their childhood and are not equipped to cope with anything less than that when they hit adulthood, but even with the best education supporting them, often they are not able to afford the lifestyle to which they are accustomed, thanks to the choices their parents made.

Their souls are weak and they do not know how to make hopefulness and happiness from within themselves.

As a homeschooling parent, I am focused for now on developing my daughter’s character more than I am focused on pushing higher academics onto her. The academics, skills, and knowledge she will need to pursue her interests and a career if she chooses one, she can learn anytime and anywhere.

Without strong character traits, she will struggle. She would lack boldness, self-control, resilience, enthusiasm, and many other tools which will get her further in life than all the knowledge in the world on top of apathy, faintheartedness, fearfulness, and self-indulgence.
