Do you want to truly limit the impact of Procrastination in your world?

You need to face down avoidance even when you are feeling Productive

Procrastination is a subtle and complex beast. In order to walk yourself out of procrastination you have to be able to not only recognise your motivation, the feelings, emotions and responses that led you to procrastinate in the first place, but you also need to be able to recognise procrastination itself. That’s not always easy. It hides in plain sight.

I have written before about a couple of the different ways you might find yourself avoiding particular tasks in your world.

Resource Procrastination for example, where you find yourself procrastinating on a resource heavy task. This flavour of procrastination may not even be about avoiding stress or anxiety. It can simply be as a result of bad planning. You defer a task to your Next Action List that you know will take a chunk of time to complete or will need a particular level of energy or focus, but you don’t plan when you will have that time, energy or focus.

There is Doubt Procrastination. This is where you find yourself procrastinating because you have a nagging feeling that there is something else you should be doing. You suspect that there is a higher priority, higher value task lurking in your unprocessed email inbox, or in the unopened mail that has been accumulating on the kitchen counter. You can read about the Weekly Review habit that can inoculate you against Doubt Procrastination here:
