PHP 7.4 New Features

PHP 7.4 Alpha1 Released With FFI Extension, Preloading Opcache for better performance and more, this starts the PHP 7.4 release cycle and scheduled to be released on November 21, 2019.

Let check out for some new core features have been added on it.

Added support for typed properties.

This will enforce that $user->id can only be assigned integer and $user->name can only be assigned strings.

Added support for arrow functions with implicit by-value scope binding.

Added support for limited return type covariance and argument type contravariance.

Full variance support is only available if autoloading used. Inside a single file, only non-cyclic type references are possible because all classes need to be available before they are referenced.

Added support for coalesce assign (??=) operator.

Added support for unpacking inside arrays.

Support for WeakReferences has been added.

A new mechanism for custom object serialization has been added, which uses two new magic methods:

The new serialization mechanism supersedes the Serializable interface, which will be deprecated in the future.

This is useful in conjunction with the spread operator.
