3 Reasons Why There Should Not Be Masks in Schools

We are all tired of it. Not the masks. Well, yes the masks. But we’re even more tired of the “NBD” attitude everyone has toward them. So, wearing a mask is no big deal — to those who say so. But use some of that empathy liberals supposedly have and consider that it might be a bigger deal for some people than others. Get the fucking masks out of schools.

Masks inhibit communication.

The core of the education process is communication, and masks inhibit communication. I, for one, am tired of speaking louder than normal and ending up with dry coughs mid-sentence. That could be my own fault; I may be talking louder than I need to. Let me know in the comments if you’re a teacher and you have this problem too. But we all have the problem of not hearing the students. I am sick to death of having to ask students to repeat themselves three times or having to go up to them to hear their answers when I need to be at the front of the room transitioning lesson material on the SmartBoard. This is not just a minor inconvenience. As a teacher, you realize that the school day is not as long as you thought; it’s downright short, actually. Think how much shorter it gets when so many student answers and questions need to be repeated three times. I don’t know exactly how much, I’m a Reading teacher; you do the math, nerd. But I know it’s a big time-waster, and after so much time spent in remote learning, we can’t afford to waste any time with these kids. I mean, I have 4th graders who read just fine but are struggling with word construction in part because they don’t recall what vowels and consonants are.

Masks don’t work in schools.
