Light on The Dark Days

Welcome back to Self-Care, Business, and Plants! I have been taking my own time away, working on myself. These past few weeks have been some of the most challenging. One thing that has continued to keep me going has been my plants and A LOT of reframing.

There have been days when finding the light on dark days seems near impossible. I have not always been myself, no matter what new thing I try. I have been navigating a new lifestyle that has no resolution soon. I have days when my brain will not send the signals to my body. In return, I am unable to enjoy simple pleasures. For me, simple is going to the gym and doing a workout. Going on a hike during the warm Oakland, California days. Or even going to the park with my puppy and going for a run. However, my brain will work against me sometimes, and I cannot enjoy these activities.

At times, I find myself putting myself in those dark places mentally. During that time, the enviornment feels dark to me as well. Seeing my purple shamrock open in full bloom brings hope and joy to my dark moments.

The purple false shamrock is unique because it opens itself up during the day and closes at night. There has to be some light and open for the plant to open during the day. When the leaves are open during the daytime, it looks as though beautiful purple butterflies are soaring in your room.

Even though I feel as though the space around me is dark and lonesome, my plant reminds me that there is always light shining, even on our darkest days. This gives me hope in myself and any situation I am going through.

Like the false purple shamrock plant, we just need that little bit of light to grow and blossom into something beautiful. I enjoy that the plant looks like butterflies when it’s open. Butterflies have their own beautiful symbolism as well. Butterflies don’t start off beautiful and with wings to soar. They go through their own changes and darkness while in their chrysalis. Sometimes, it is challenging to pull yourself out of those dark places. Even when you have tried things you usually do when feeling down. It’s okay to feel down and defeated throughout your journey.

Maintenance for ourselves should be similar to taking care of a false shamrock. The proper lighting that is not too strong, water, and love. The false shamrock is a great plant and easy to maintain. You will gain joy each time you see them open and close.

Taking care of yourself should always be a top priority. Sometimes that task will feel challenging and like a constant battle. That’s okay; you’re worth it. Surround yourself with a community of people you can lean on when you aren’t feeling strong. Something that also helps me is to “catch, check, and change” the false thoughts I tell myself. “Catch”- grab that thought that is appearing in your mind. “Check”- is that thought true, or am I making up a story in my head? Change-what is something realistic and positive can I say instead?

Remember, you are never alone, and you got this sh!t
