When Rugby Ruled

For more than a decade in the early 1900s, a gentleman’s game from across the pond supplanted football at Stanford. It took a world war to turn back the tide.

The beauty in the Ordinary

A guy with a T shirt on his face and image description reads, “You Look quite attractive today”
We all need to appreciate the beauty of leading a simple life.

Today in my Entrepreneurial Manager class, my professor spoke about the three core elements a successful or aspiring entrepreneur should have: Network, Language, and Vision.

He emphasized on establishing and maintaining relationships beyond cordial and professional and connecting with an individual in the B school on a personal level so that with one phone call and you can get work done. Language, here, doesn’t necessarily mean the spoken language but also the body language, the ability to understand an individual’s behavior and intention, etc. Vision is what struck me the most. According to him, or to the extent that I understood, all successful entrepreneurs have a grander-than-life vision in everything they do and say.

This is fine, but I believe we should not fail to understand the beauty of the ordinary: people with no network or vision. They take up many habits, from gardening to caring for their sick mother or wife. It is not that they are lazy or less ambitious; most likely, they are the product of their circumstances. They have a greater tendency to be empathetic and have high emotional intelligence. They can get along with you very well. They do not think they have to be larger than life or more significant than society to make a positive impact. They live simple lives and are more satisfied with what they have. Their homes are serene, and their hearts are huge. They are beautiful inside and out. I would choose an ordinary life over a visionary one any day.
